I have to admit, my trip to Zurich, Switzerland was random. I was invited to the Zurich Film Festival, with no real attachment to any of the films screening at the fest. I’m not one to say no to a free trip, so off I went. My 5 Best Things to do In Zurich
I found some real fun things to do when I was there, with a little help from the Zurich Board of Tourism of course.
1. Cabaret Voltaire
I love a good walking tour. I want to hear about the history of wherever I am, especially a place I know so little about. One of the places on the tour was the Cabaret Voltaire, the nightclub where the Dada art movement was created.
2. Lindt Chocolate Factory
The Lindt Chocolate Factory is a must do. Not only did we have a tour, we learned how to make chocolate from a Chocolatier. Without question on the 5Best Things to Do in Zurich
I would love to say that I was so good at making Lindt chocolate they wouldn’t let me leave, but then I wouldn’t have time to tell you about it so it’s win win. I do look the part I think.
3. Walking Tour of Zurich
I know it’s exciting to go off the beaten path and discover things on your own, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for a informed, structured walking tour. There are so many things to see in Zurich. I love getting the history and the “best of” when it comes to a new city or place. It’s a beautiful and somewhat expensive city, but walking around and taking it all in is free, technically. As you can tell, I’m great at standing in one place, and pointing.
4. Zurich Film Festival
It would be hard for me not to mention the reason I was there at all, the Zurich Film Festival. If you are a fan of films and celebrities, I suggested the ZFF. You might feel like you are in a movie while you are there, which is a bonus. I also made some friends along the way, and as usual, can’t contain my excitement.
5. Zurich Nightlife
I admit I’m not the best person to talk nightlife. However I did take in some nightlife, technically. Here I am at the Oepfelchammer, and although I didn’t have it in me to do the following, I watched people try, and fail:
“The Oepfelchammer is best known for its wine tavern on the first floor – which still looks like it did more than 200 years ago. A special challenge awaits you there: climb over two ceiling beams and drink a free glass of wine hanging upside down. If you make it, you will be allowed to carve your name into the wooden walls…” Certainly on the 5 Best Things to Do in Zurich
Anything for an obnoxious photo.
Now if you really want to do something underground, and embrace the culture, you might want to give Zurich’s Burger King a try. Or you can just watch the video below.
I hope to make it back to Zurich soon! Hope you enjoyed reading my 5 Best Things to Do in Zurich
